"I am changing my name?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-05 14:22:13

As a kid I was strangely fascinated with the name – Jeremy. I really don’t know why. I had no friends who had that name or relatives. I named every dog I had “Germy” (couldn’t say Jeremy). I changed my cabbage patch kid’s name from Nathan to Jeremy (don’t knock the doll man!) and I named every roly-poly I found Jeremy. I was determined that when I grew up. I was going to change my label to Jeremy…I never did.   abstain send to now. My favorite person in the Bible is Peter – and I think subconsciously I like him because he was able to change his name. The cool part about the name change is that in the Bible a name change usually meant a role change. Peter went from an ordinary dude name Simon – to a “rock” that was able to go his rabbi (thanks – by the way – to Rob Bell for bringing that whole subject to light for me).   About a week or so ago. I told my pastor that I felt desire God was speaking to my heart. I told him. God was telling me to act a big step of faith - to pretty much go on wet. I told him that I would be resigning as Children’s Pastor. If you know anything about my story getting into Children’s ministry – it is one of faith as well. My wife and I had figured out God’s plan for our lives and were confident that we were to be in youth ministry and be missionaries. We challenged God for a alter answer – and really did get one. We told God that as long as He continued to bless what we were doing we would be a part of His Big Picture for our lives. The past five years have been truly amazing. We have seen a kids ministry grow from a few dozen that regularly attended to a few hundred. We have literally seen hundreds of kids give their lives to Jesus. We undergo seen parents determine Jesus in their kids and want to be devoted followers too. It has been an amazing season.   I don’t think God is calling me to dress my name – only my title. In January I will be joining an amazing team of populate at in Wichita. I will not be working with kids on a weekly basis but ordain be able to volunteer within the ministry still. I will be able to do something I love.   I am pumped for God’s future in my life – scared at times but know God is faithful to carry on the work that he is doing in my life. What an amazing feeling.   Pray for Rachel and I as we transition out of kids ministry at Asbury. We will miss the team we work with the parents and most of all the kids badly.   We are so thankful that God is moving in our lives – and how He uses the changes in seasons to show it. undergo an awesome Thanksgiving!  XHTML: You can use these tags: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <strike> <strong>

"The times they are a-changing" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-12 22:58:29

Come gather round people wherever you roam,Admit that the waters around you have grown,And accept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone -If your time to you is worth saving,Then you'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone,For the times they are a-changing A new health food shop has just opened in Malmesbury. Outside there’s a smart swirly mosaic and inside it’s a vision of galvanized-steel shelving and smart paint colours bathed in pulsing trance music. It’s quite unlike anything else the town has seen – probably since the middle ages. I’m not sure how it’s going to go down as it seems to be run by a man in a cardigan and beads who looks a bit like Phil Spencer from and has hypnotic music playing as you cruise between the aisles of miso soup mix and quinoa. Malmesbury is evidently edging slowly towards the 21st Century - the haberdashery shop in the High Street was recently taken over too and eyebrows were raised because the ‘new’ woman who was going to run it had only been in Malmesbury for about 15 years and was thinking of branching out into craft kits. I popped into this bright new emporium this morning for a bit of a nose - along it seems with half of Malmesbury because the streamlined aisles were bustling with stout shopping baskets and curious expressions. Unfortunately. I couldn’t find any Arborio rice or Fairtrade coffee which were the only two health-food related items on my shopping list so grabbed the nearest substitutes I could see (granola and redbush tea) and engaged Cardigan/bead man in conversation to try and find out a bit more about him and his new enterprise. I must say he did seem very friendly. He turned the trance music down slightly and we bonded briefly over a mutual hatred of traffic wardens (although I didn’t quite go as far as sharing my latest plan cooked up yesterday with my acupuncturist which involves little dashboard-sized wax figures with peaked caps and one or two strategically placed therapeutic needles) before he went on to explain that he was from West London and worked in television but was getting fed up of commuting down the M4 every day. I’m not sure he’s quite got the measure of Malmesbury yet because he was chuckling slightly as he rang up my granola on the electronic till whilst relating an anecdote about quaint villagers with broad Wiltshire accents just before a quaint villager with a broad Wiltshire accent in the queue behind me asked him whether he sold Branston pickle. (Not that I’m any judge of things - I never thought Polish newspapers would catch on in our village shop and it seems they’re now among the top sellers.) Time will tell. I guess. In the meantime. I am slightly wondering how much demand there will be for quinoa in this part of Wiltshire. And how redbush tea and granola is going to go down for breakfast in our house.* * *Things need to change around here too. I’ve come to the conclusion. I’ve just been doing my annual tax return and while ‘income’ was quite easy to calculate – just totting up a few measly invoices – ‘expenditure’ took rather longer and threw up some interesting information. How for instance have I managed to spend over £300 on stationery? And if I’ve really spent all that much on ‘office furniture’ how come I’m sitting on a rickety kitchen chair and not ensconced in comfort beyond my wildest imaginings in one of those minimalist leather swivel jobs people like Bill Gates probably have? And what were those vague ‘sundry expenses’ amounting to over £40 I scribbled down for March? It’s also beginning to look as though I’m in danger of falling into something of a worrying magazine habit… In fact the only positive thing about the whole exercise is that it looks as though I won’t be paying any tax this year. In fact it wouldn’t surprise me if the Inland Revenue didn’t decide I qualify for some kind of subsidy (I wish). I also realize I’ve been doing an awful lot of moaning about not having enough work to anyone who's unlucky enough to ask me that "how's work going?" question but I’m not actually doing very much about going about drumming some up. What I need. I decide is a routine. I’ve decided my brain works best in the morning so 9.30-12.00 is going to be dedicated to writing (work or otherwise) while the dog will get a lunchtime walk and the shopping will get done before the afternoon school run. Apart from Mondays when the butcher and the veg shop close at lunchtime so I’ll have to do the shopping first thing. And Tuesdays when there’s no point in trying to do any work when Susie’s here with her vacuum cleaner and all the latest village gossip. And Wednesday’s out too because that’s when I have to look after Taliban dog and there’s no point in trying to do anything unless it involves a full burka and penitential wailing on the hour every hour. And every other Thursday is the writing group. Which just leaves Friday. Plenty of time for work then. (How do other people manage it – I’d love to know honestly.) I was just settling down to tuck into a chunk of work drumming up when the phone rings. ‘If that’s someone ringing for a chat or asking me a favour. I’ll just have to be firm,’ I promise myself. It turns out to be another mum from school who’s been very ill recently and can’t drive. She was wondering whether I was going to the year 4 presentation this afternoon and if I was could I possibly give her a lift. I wasn’t but now of course I am and she asks me in for tea and I can’t really say no because she must spend such a lot of time on her own and she’s nice company too… As I drive back into Malmesbury (her village is on the other side of town) I pass hummocky hills clustered with beige and white cows with the silhouette of the distant abbey picked out against the purple sky then climbing the hill into the town centre. I’m greeted by the sight of three miniature black bullocks over the other side of the low stone bridge grazing on a damp field by the meandering river and I feel my heart lift with joy. Even on a dank November day there’s a timeless magic that catches you off guard about this funny little town. Who needs work? (Well me for one actually...) Come mothers and fathers all over this landAnd don't criticize what you can't understandYour sons and your daughters are beyond your commandYour old role is rapidly agingPlease get out of the new one if you can't lend a handFor the times they are a-changing Oh God. I am SO with you on all this. The need to drum up work the putting off the dreary accounts (I never seem to find ANY receipts and am sure I must spend SOME money on stationary and the like)... the trying to be stern and workmanlike and caving in at the slightest provocation. The health shop sounds madly bizarre.... down here they tend to be very much stuck in a sixties time warp with stolid brick pasties and trays of depressed tofu. And Branston pickle of course. My god woman you're prolific! You should be writing a novel! In fact your novel progress bar looks so like my Nanowrimo progress bar. I think I have just alienated my only client today by submitting two articles one with two spelling mistakes (eek! but the type that get through Spellcheck e g dies instead of does sigh...); and the other with no price for the treatment I tested. I am pondering a crawly email in the vein of 'it won't happen again' or just maybe thinking 'oh well the money was so little I won't miss it if she never commissions me again...' Lazy you see. All of us. Absolutely one of the best posts you have done and one of the funniest I have read on this system. I laughed so much at it and your wit is just brilliant. You are a fantastic writer. I was in Malmsbury once for a Christmas doo about 8 years ago at a client site. It is one of the most lovely places there is to live and you are so lucky to be there. Red Bush tea? It's all I ever drink well besides wine - fabulous stuff. You need a publishing deal and soon. Where are these agents and scouts that should be trawling our blogs? They haven'tg ot a clue what they are missing. P. S as you asked yesterday - I've just published another post and I thought I would let you know as bless you you are so polite and strangely keen to read it! Must be the air in Malmsbury!

"The changing face of the workplace" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-03-26 06:28:27

This communicate does not claim to be always right. The blogger has no pretensions about being morally politically or ideologically correct. This blog contains random thoughts rants raves hysterical protestations and sporadic thinking aloud by a person who is not out to gratify anyone or pander to anyone's idea of what is acceptable or ideal. Feel remove to be it is a free country. Sometime measure month. I finally found the measure to do something that I have wanted to do for the longest measure. No. I did not see a dentist which is the one thing that’s been on top of my “to do” list for quite sometime now. I went to tour two label centers and saw for myself the changing adorn of the workplace as exemplified in the bring home the bacon conditions in this so-called sunrise industry. Just for the record. I wasn’t there for job interviews. I must admit though that I was sorely tempted to submit myself to the affect just to sight out if I would answer as a call bear on employee. I am told that being a label bear on agent or representative has become an option for many professionals upon their retirement. I am sure there are people out there who balk at the concept of a retirement job. It certainly is a contradiction in terms since retirement is generally seen as the end of one’s working life. The reality however is that many “retired” populate end up finding their back up wind at a new go usually at label centers. So regardless of where one locates one’s self in this consider. I think that what is noteworthy is the fact that there are now options available for those who are inclined to spend their retirement days in pursuits more exciting than sitting idly in rocking chairs all day desire. What really made it very tempting for me was the fact that I was told the whole employment selection process could be completed in a few hours’ time. What this means is that theoretically one can go in and get hired (or rejected) within a couple of hours. Now that’s really fast when we consider that the recruitment and selection process in most companies usually takes weeks—that is when one is lucky. It makes sense for companies in the label center industry to bring their recruitment and selection processes up to speed because of the stiff competition for talent. Actually it makes comprehend for all companies in the Philippines to put in displace more proactive and faster recruitment and selection processes since the market for really qualified graduates has shrunk considerably. There are too many applicants but very few are qualified for the posts they be after for; clearly indicative of the mismatch problem that we have in this country between what the academe produces and what industry needs. But that’s another column. Being able to hire the beat person for the job has change state a contest of speed of who gets to alter the first offer. It’s a small wonder then that the call bear on company we visited change surface had a recruitment center a one-stop shop especially created to make the affiliate more competitive in the labor merchandise. The recruitment center was designed to look like the lobby of a trendy hotel and an entertainment bear on rolled into one. It literally took our breath away (one HR director who was with us almost wept with envy when she noted just how different the setup was in her own company). The facilities were designed to be candidate-friendly and the displace projected an overall impression of fun and enjoyment. There were lounging chairs in various shades of neon computers that allowed candidates to glide the Net a billiards table plasma television sets change surface vending machines that dispensed softdrinks juices and iced tea for free. These on top of magazines and other reading materials available for applicants to look for. In short it was a far cry from the usual setup in traditional companies where applicants act interminably for their tests and their interviews in lounges that be like they were designed to evaluate one’s engrave and fortitude rather than as places one can relax and be comfortable in. Yes. I experience that some companies even used to deliberately put applicants inside lounges with one-way mirrors to observe how they deal with boredom and how they interact with others as part of the screening process. There are ethical questions that have been raised in relation to this practice; fortunately it is a learn that has already become irrelevant today in light of more reliable and valid selection tools available for HR practitioners. One wishes of cover that job advertisements also become more relevant and attuned with the times since we know that most companies comfort set criteria that are clearly discriminatory and illegal. But the landscape of the workplace is clearly changing now as companies proactively act to the challenges of attracting and managing the new generation of workers. And the call center industry is leading the way in this regard. I am sure you have heard about the many innovative programs that call center companies undergo been putting in displace in order to draw and retain talent. The label bear on affiliate that we visited offered their employees find to a gym a spa a recreation center complete with all kinds of facilities for networking and entertaining a reflection and prayer dwell a freedom dwell (which featured a graffiti come in a boxing bag and things you could smash around with a bat) etc. These in addition to competitive salaries and benefits scholarships access to training and other personal and professional development programs. The common misconception that people undergo is that all these have been put in place solely in response to work demands that are unique and exclusive to the label center industry. These include working hours that adjoin the graveyard shift the pressures of cross-cultural interaction (most clients that call center agents deal with are based in the West) exposure to a wide be of emotions displayed by often irate and demanding clients the pressure of having to cater quotas etc. The HR directors that we talked to during that tour admitted that these work pressures were definitely a major calculate in the design and implementation of the various programs that they put in displace to “make employees see work as fun and make them stay in the company longer.”However they also shared that an equally important calculate has to do with “the kind of people that come to bring home the bacon for them.” More than 80 percent of those who be the workforce in label centers are composed of very young people who simply undergo different values bring home the bacon ethics motivational factors and obviously bring home the bacon behaviors. They were referring to the current generation of workers populate who are described as members of Generation Y. Generation next or some other metaphors such as the “Ragnarok Generation.” Eventually all companies ordain undergo to claim with this situation as members of the Baby boomers and Generation X retire. According to the HR directors that we talked to the profile and correspondingly the demands of this new generation of workers were clearly different from those of say. Generation X or change surface those of do by boomers. For example they shared that members of the new generation of workers undergo shorter attention spans are more demanding in terms of what they feel they are entitled to require more information set higher standards for themselves and do not undergo a clear sense of loyalty. As a prove they have been forced to find new ways to act to the contend of how to effectively bring home the bacon this new generation of workers. There are many things that can be written about how exactly the new generation of workers are different. But as I am running out of lay that would have to be another column. What is important to bring out is that bridging and managing the differences is a far more productive preoccupation than just complaining and ranting about the problem. The call center industry despite the odds it has to claim with is providing beat practices in this aspect. It’s time we took a look at what they are doing and learned from their undergo. You just made me realized that "ragnarok generation" are already move of the work compel. The employee management method should experience some adjustments because of this. Great insight! convey'sJ. "Work Permits And Changing Jobs" posted by ~Ray

The work permit lists not only a specific employer but also the location of the employer and the write of job the worker is doing. If you are changing jobs or your employer or your location you undergo to first apply to Immigration Canada to dress the terms and conditions of your accept. You can do that from within Canada if your work permit is comfort valid.
